Ask the Pro Stylist, Aka Coaching with Ms. D, is excited to announce a service that pays homage to my humble beginnings as a hairstylist: beauty industry mentor. I began my career as a hairdresser, graduating college, freelancing as a makeup artist, opening a business, becoming a blogger and writing for online outlets, then becoming a certified adult cosmetology educator, salon and retail manager, cosmetology school executive director, completing a Master's in English, publishing a book, and now I am a certified coach specializing in life, relationships, and careers.

What is a Mentor?

A mentor helps people develop professionally when they are stuck in their careers. Mentors provide insight, share their knowledge, and offer tools and advice to overcome challenges and succeed.

Mentoring is Not Coaching

Coaching addresses a specific challenge, guiding the client to find solutions and create an action plan through a series of learned techniques. Mentors are experts in their chosen field and can provide feedback or advice when necessary, whereas a coach brings you to a conclusion and doesn't offer counsel.

What is a Beauty Industry Mentor?

I have over 30 years of experience in the beauty industry, rising to the executive level and working various jobs that are all beauty-related. A beauty industry mentor is devoted to the beauty field, has expert knowledge, is aware of past and current trends, has lengthy leadership and training experience, is devoted to creating passionate beauty professionals, has advanced technical skills, and can provide positive corrective feedback. I am also empathetic and understanding of the eclectic group within the industry and what it takes to be successful.
